AWALK FOR EDUCATION

         A WALK FOR EDUCATION=

The goal of A Walk for Education (AWFE) is “to increase awareness of the opportunities available through education particularly in the STEM fields and to shatter myths about African-Americans in math, science, engineering and other technologies.

AWFE is a grassroots program in which NSBE members go door to door in underserved Black communities and hand out information on college, scholarship information, SAT/ACT preparation tools, NSBE and share information on the benefits of majoring in STEM fields.

AWFE is the primary outreach and advertising mechanism of TORCH. AWFE is a one-time broad effort to reach into the community and initiate a relationship that can be developed further through other TORCH activities.

AWFE is now a chapter-based program. AWFE is designed to impact both traditional students and non-traditional students and should be paired with other TORCH programs following. Examples include promoting STEM Community Training Program as Northeastern University did, hosting an Informal Science and Engineering Activity as the Charlotte Alumni Chapter did, or even pairing AWFE with a day of general service.

A second activity will reinforce the NSBE members’ dedication to the community, provide additional time for members to interact with members of the community, and thereby make the information that was passed out that much more meaningful.

WHAT IS MORAL EDUCATION

     WHAT IS MORAL EDUCATION:-

The Moral Education program is an innovative, engaging curriculum designed to develop young people of all nationalities and ages in the UAE with universal principles and values, that reflect the shared experiences of humanity.
In a growing knowledge-based economy and an increasingly interdependent world, there is a need for a holistic approach to education. The program encourages youth to explore questions core to everyday life, building on the cultural values shared across the UAE’s diverse communities.
It promotes character building to develop the next generation of role models and leaders, who contribute positively to the long-term health and well-being of society and the wide world. Adopting a logical approach, the program fosters universal concepts relevant to any community.

The moral education program, which will be delivered to students in both public and private schools, was carefully developed in close collaboration with social and education leaders from the UAE and the world. The result is a forward-thinking curriculum built on active learning techniques that extend beyond the classroom. These include informal learning environments such as field trips and community outreach programs.

program was born out of the UAE’s broadened vision of building a sustainable society, grounded in the happiness, wellness and social well-being of its people. The program creates a framework of collaboration between the school, the family and the wider community to promote good citizenship. The use of the word “moral” in this context represents a set of attributes that shape the next generation to become citizens of the world.

The Moral Education Committee oversees the development, progress and implementation of the Moral Education Program. The committee comprises the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court, The Ministry of Education, Abu Dhabi Education Council, the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority and the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IS PROPOSELY EXAM ORIENTED

THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IS                 PROPOSELY EXAM ORIENTED:-

The modern education system remains exam-oriented, just like it always was. We rely on routine memorization as the key approach to education. Schools are still using test scores as the primary criteria to analyze the knowledge and skills of students.
As a result, the overall education system is somewhat authoritarian in nature. We are made to believe that good test scores are the key to achieving success.
Teachers are not emphasizing the importance of being creative, innovative and diverse. They don’t bother to discover talents; they just want to see how good the students are at memorizing.
In the end, if feels like a hopeless situation that’s killing the creativity of many students. For that reason, many parents prefer homeschooling over public school education.
The schools continue to ignore important methods such as discussion, training, and research to discover talent. From the looks of it, the current education will not change the world in terms of enhancing students’ creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

Education is denied to disabled and poor student

EDICATION IS DENIED TO                  ISABLED AND POOR STUDENT:-

We’re all aware of the fact that education is a universal human right, anywhere in the world
Unfortunately, this basic right is denied to people with disabilities. The lack of proper training of teachers, discrimination and negativity leave poor and disabled students vulnerable to getting their right to education.

For instance, more than 100 million living in developing countries cannot read or write. This can be due to conflict, poverty, and discrimination. In the end, poverty forces families to choose which kid to send to school.
On the other hand, people living in a place with war or conflict may not see the need for education, since they don’t feel secure. War negatively impacts the education system in a country.
As a result, its economy is affected and the generation may suffer from things such as lack of education, inflation, and so on. We’re still not seeing the end to the wars, so the children in these countries don’t get the chance to get educated and change the world

TEACHER FAILS TO FOCUS ON SKILL DEVELOPMENT

TEACHER FAILS TO FOCUS ON SKILL                               DEVELOPMENT:-

Developed countries like China and Singapore have diverted their focus on skill development. Through that method, they have achieved a great improvement in the industrial growth. However, there is a huge gap between the need for developing skills and the education students are receiving in the rest of the world. The system provides us with the knowledge, but we’re not seeing any progress in learning the technical skills for using that knowledge.
Most countries lack an education system that can stimulate children and encourage the learning skills they need for achieving their full potential. This means that we need a curriculum with practical and vocational learning aside from the theoretical studies.
We need this change because the world is changing, but the education system has not evolved fast enough. Most people are attracted by intelligence not education.

FULL FORM OF EDUCATION

      FULL FORM OF EDUCATION:-

EDUCATION:-

E- Energy
D- Discipline
U- Unity
C- Confidence
A- Aim
T- Talent
I- Interest
O- Opportunity
N- Nationality.

PURPOSE OF EDUCATION

          PURPOSE OF EDUCATION:-

Kathie Green of Indiana: "The purpose of education is to teach the basics so everyone has a shot at life :) but more than that to create the "spark" - the curiosity, the creativity, the confidence, the zest for further knowledge that helps a person grow beyond what they believe they can be. It's a lot to hope for - but I have watched it happen time and again...education changes the scope of the world.

Yolanda Gordon of South Carolina: "The purpose of education is prepare our children for higher education, teach them to navigate social interactions with peers from different backgrounds, and to help them become tax paying members of society. It is to provide them with the building blocks to figure out what they want to do with their lives and to spark their curiosity to learn more and to build on the skills that they already have. In the case of children with disabilities it is also to teach them functional skills so that they can function on their own once they leave school behind and to potentially obtain and keep a job for those that are high functioning."

Myrdin Thompson of Kentucky: "Creating compassionate caring adults means treating children with compassion and care. Education is but one cornerstone of creating a vital, sustainable community. Each of us have a role to play in helping the very youngest of our citizens grow and thrive and fulfill their potential. By providing a solid foundation (the basics so to speak) we can then help our children reach for their dreams. Working together as partners in this effort is essential. Parents (families) are the constant in the equation, schools/teachers are the variable (as they change over time). Only by creating a shared vision and pathway to success will our children be able to achieve their goals."

Dalinda Alcantar of Texas: "I think it is simple: the purpose of education is grow children into productive citizens that use their knowledge, talents, and learned skills to sustain themselves and help others while pushing the human race forward in areas of equality, equity, and harmony."
Felisa Hilbert of Oklahoma: "The value of education is to ignite the spark that develops creative thinking skills and the value of reasoning for yourself. EdEducation teaches and prepares children and youth to meet the future needs to function in a society not only academically, but emotional, socially, spiritually and economically. Education gives you the power to believe in yourself and the knowledge to feel accepted value and love. Parents are the first educators to developed this confidence and self esteem to believe in education, letting kids know that every child is smart, capable of reaching their dreams and goals. Teachers are the other part this puzzle; they need to believe that every child is teachable and set high expectations for them and for themselves."

Stacey Kazakis Weigler of New Hampshire: "The purpose of education is to develop students’ desire and ability to think and learn about the world around them. Further, the purpose is to learn how to develop relationships that will enable students to work with their peers, throughout their schooling and beyond."
Melissa Bilash of Pennsylvania: "To ensure growth and build community that allows meaningful post secondary outcomes regardless of ability."
. . .
It can do much in directing thought and formulating standards, in creating habits of responsibility and courage and devotion. In the last analysis our home surroundings are the determining factor in development, and the example of those dear to us and constantly with us is what makes the warp and woof of our lives . . . remember that on the public school largely depends the success or the failure of our great experiment in government "by the people, for the people.

DEMOCRATIC AIM OF EDUCATION

           DEMOCRATIC AIM OF EDUCATION:-

It is accepted that education should aim at the promotion of democratic values which are necessary for the success of a democracy. These values are the pre-requisites for the successful living in a democratic nation wedded to democratic cult and principles.
The aim of education in the democratic countries in the world should be the cultivation of democratic values in the minds of the children and individuals—faith in democratic way of living, respect for dignity of other persons, freedom, equality of opportunity, justice, faith in tolerance, faith in change, and peaceful methods and faith in co-operative living and above all fellow-feelingness.

CITIZENSHIP AIM OF EDUCATION

       CITIZENSHIP AIM OF EDUCATION:-

It is admitted that a good citizen is an asset for the nation. The development of nation depends upon the nature of the citizens and in order to be a good citizen, certain qualities are essential ingredients—a sense of social responsibility and social duty, a love for freedom, power of independent thinking, a spirit of national service, a sense of sacrificing one’s personal interest for the larger interests of the community and nation, courage to express freely, free from fear, and a knowledge of socio-political system i.e. socio-political consciousness.
Therefore, these values should be fostered in the minds of children and individuals through the planned and organised system of education. Plato, the author of the treatise on the system of government, “The Republic’ writes, “Education for citizenship is the only education which deserves the name; that other sort of training, which aims at the acquisition of wealth or bodily strength, or mere cleverness apart from intelligence and justice, is mean and illiberal and is not worth to be called education at all.”

SPIRITUAL AIM OF EDUCATION

       SPIRITUAL AIM OF EDUCATION:-

The idealistic philosophers contend that the chief aim of education is to develop the spiritual side of an individual. The sole aim of education should be the maximum development of spiritual potentialities of the individual. In turn, this development gives the real strength to human soul and mind. Regarding the importance of education for spiritual side of the individual.
Dr. S. Radhakrishnan says, “The aim of education is neither national efficiency nor world solidarity, but making the individual feel that he has within himself something deeper than intellect, call it spirit if you like”.
Shri Aurobindo views, “The chief aim of education should be to help the growing soul to draw out that in itself which is best and make it perfect for a noble cause”. Thus, the central aim of education should be the development of spirituality in men.
Inculcation of spiritual values in the minds of individuals by the programme of education is the need of the hour to save the humanity from plunging into the morass of hat redness, selfishness, corruption, aggression, violence, chaos, disorder, narrow-mindedness, malevolent spirit, tensions, fears, conflicts, brutality, suspicion, destruction and disaster.
Pristine glory and pride of the nation can be brought back by education, by inculcating the spiritual values or truths in children and by propelling them to practice in their day to day lives. Because it is said that the taste of pudding lies in eating it In short, spiritual education will bring happiness, order and contentment in the world by cultivating spiritual faiths in the minds of the individuals.
Therefore, it is through the aim of education that awakening of self can be done and development of spirituality should be the be-all and end-all of human life.

COMPLETE LIVING AIM OF EDUCATION

   COMPLETE LIVING AIM OF EDU:-

The eminent naturalistic philosopher, educationist and biologist of the nineteenth century Herbert Spencer expounded complete living aim of education. He said that education should bring about the whole-some development which enables an individual to face all problems of life in all spheres and solve them with great courage and conviction.
He asserted that the chief task of education is to enable the individuals to prepare for life and the art of life consists of right ruling of conduct in all directions under all circumstances. In this connection he says that education must tell us “in what way to treat the body; in what way to manage out affairs; in what way to bring up our family; in what way to behave as a citizen; in what way to utilize those sources of happiness which nature supplies— how to use all facilities to the greatest advantage of ourselves and others”.
So, education should acquaint us with the laws and ways of complete living. He writes in his treatise “on Education”, “To prepare us for complete living is the function which education has to discharge, and the only mode of judging any educational course is to judge in what degree it discharges such function”. He identified certain activities which have bearing upon complete living according to their respective values in order of priority.
1. Activities relating to self-preservation directly are those subjects like physiology, hygiene, physics, chemistry which help in self-preservation. Activities related to self-preservation indirectly include subjects like Mathematics, Biology, Sociology and Physics.
2. Activities pertaining to rearing and bearing of offspring’s are the subjects like physiology, domestic science, psychology which help in understanding the principles of child’s growth and development.
3. Activities relating to social and political duties include subjects like history, political science and economics which help the individuals to perform socio-political duties so that one can live properly.
4. Activities relating to utilization of leisure time profitably include subjects like art, music, poetry, painting, literature, drama etc. which serve the end by satisfying leisure time needs.

CHARACTER AIM OF EDUCATION

   CHARACTER AIM OF EDUCATION:-

Character is a mental quality and it should be built very cautiously by education. T. Raymond opines, “Education finds its real meaning and value when its aim is character-building”. Bertrand Russel emphasizes that the formation of character is the chief aim of education. Herbart, the great educator of nineteenth century says, the whole work of education may be summing up the concept of “morality”.
M.K.Gandhi viewed, “Character building is the aim in education I would try to develop courage, strength, virtue, the ability to forget oneself in working towards great aims. I should feel that if we succeed in building the character of the individual, society will take care of itself”.
Swami Vivekananda, Dayanand Saraswati and all other philosophers of the east also emphasized the development of character as the aim of education. Character, essentially, includes all the best and noble qualities which can be better cultivated by education. Morality or moral qualities include tolerance, truthfulness, honesty, courtesy, loyalty, justice, sincerity, endurance, courage or fortitude, fellow feeling, freedom, self-control, non-violence, forgiveness, will power, conviction, temperance, etc.
These should be fostered by a suitable programme of education. Therefore, S. Radhakrishnan says, “The troubles of the whole world including India are due to the fact that education has become a mere intellectual exercise and not the acquisition of moral and spiritual values”.
It is education for character which will enable a man to rise above narrow mindedness, self interest, anger, fear, miserliness and to utilize his knowledge for the betterment of humanity rather than for its destruction and dilapidation. As such, the aim of education should be the development of character or building of character for the larger interest of the community and humanity as a whole.

VOCATIONAL AIM OF EDUCATION

       VOCATIONAL AIM OF EDUCATION:-

In the modern times, it is felt that education should have its preparatory value to enable individuals to earn his livelihood or to make both ends meet in order to live happily and successfully. It is the economic self-sufficiency of a person which makes him a worthy and contributing citizen.
The advocates of this aim say that all the knowledge that the child has gained, all the culture the child has acquired in the school will be of no use, if he cannot make both ends meet as an adult member of the community. Therefore, education should aim at imparting knowledge, skill, and information to the pupils in order to make them self-reliant; not to be a drag or parasite upon others.
As such, vocational bias in education is absolutely necessary for enabling pupils to be productive members in the society.
Education with the vocational aim will prepare each individual for an occupation which will suit to his needs, abilities, interests and attitudes. Vocational aim of education is also superscripted as ‘Bread and Butter, aim’, ‘Blue Jacket Aim’ and ‘White collar Aim’. M. K. Gandhi says, “True education ought to be for the boys and girls a kind of insurance against unemployment”.

AIM OF EDUCATION

               AIMS OF EDUCATION:-

     1. Knowledge Aim of Education:-

According to this aim, the individual develops his individuality and fulfills his possibility by the help of knowledge.
Knowledge is considered as power by which things are done. So, “Knowledge is power” was said by Bacon. It is knowledge that has enabled humanity to make progress.
Man becomes resourceful through knowledge. Socrates said that “one who had true knowledge could not be other than virtuous”.Knowledge is sine qua non for every spheres of human life—physical, social, moral, spiritual and economic. Great philosophers Socrates, Aristotle, Dante, Comenim, Bacon have propounded knowledge as an important aim of education.
In the narrow sense, knowledge aim implies “Knowledge for the sake of knowledge”. In its wider sense, it means development of mental powers-thinking, reasoning, discrimination, judgement, memory, problem solving, imagination, intelligence etc. True knowledge consists in possessing ideas of universal validity and universal relevance.
In other words, knowledge and wisdom must be for the good of the greatest number. Further, knowledge acquisition should not be considered as an end in itself. Rather it should be a means to other ends—individual development, civil efficiency, economic competency, living a richer and healthy life, welfare of the humanity, etc.
Thus, reception and utilization of knowledge is essential element in knowledge aim of education.

NATURE OF EDUCATION

            NATURE OF EDUCATION:-
As the meaning of education, so its nature which is very complex.
                The natures of education are:-
